Educational Technology is a broad field. The Association for Educational Communications and Technology, the professional society for ET, defines it as:Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.
In Ed Tech I, it started from the history of educational technology, the various definitions, quality education and the roles of educational technology in the 21st millennium. The students were taught to prevent the dangers of dehumanization through ideological propaganda, pornography, financial fraud and other exploitative use of technology. These issues continually affects the people and the culture while widening the gap between rich and poor countries as well as the younger and older generations.

It was also discussed in the course the distinction between educational technology and other concepts such as:
  • Instructional technology - the use of technology in instruction, different from school management.
  • Educational media - equipment or materials apart from the teachers himself.
  • Audiovisual aids - learning media to stir the senses for more effective learning.
The educational technology 1 served to:
  1. orient the learner to the pervasiveness of educational technology in society
  2. lent familiarization on how educational technology can be utilized as media for the avenues of teaching-learning process in the school
  3. uplift human learning through the use of learning technology
  4. impart skills in planning, designing, using and evaluating the technology-enriched teaching-learning process
  5. acquaint learners on basic aspects of community education, functions of the school media center
  6. introduce the learner to what is recognized

Experience

As a student of educational technology, I incorporated all my experiences as exhausting because of the many requirements and activities involved. There is the Photoshop editing, cartooning, PowerPoint presentations, video editing, mind boggling exams, etc. name it, and all of those for a given period of time during the whole duration of the semester. Despite all the exhaustion, surviving the course gave me the experience and skills gained which were all worth the effort.

Reflection

Application

I gained the skills in remembering, self-assessment and applying what i had previously learned to my present situation based on my level of understanding and skills gained. It truly paved the way for the learner to become aware, appreciative and equipped to use educational technology tools ranging from traditional to modern educational media.
